For thousands of years prior to contact with the Europeans, First Peoples survived and thrived by living off the land and using its resources to make food, clothing, tools and shelter.

Each community established their ways of governing, celebrating their culture and expressing their religious beliefs.

Even nomadic tribes held traditional territories that supported their connection with the environment but engaged in trade with other First Nation communities far and wide.
